Your tv watching assignment

1. Workout on Bravo.

Have you seen this show? Filled with unprofessional work relationships, petty arguments, impromptu and unwelcome counseling sessions, gorgeous bodies and Hot Lesbian Action (HLA)--it's begging to be recapped. It's on tonight, same time and place as Real Housewives of NYC. If tonight is your first time watching, you're going to be joining mid-season, so just go with the flow (trust me, it's not that complicated) and I'll do my best to give you some background tomorrow.

An SGM warning: the gorgeous bodies and HLA are a potent cocktail for the heterosexual male. If you want some of the sex tonight, then watch this with the hetero man of your choice and YOU WILL GET SOME. I can pretty much guarantee that you'll be slapping his hands off of your person within 2 minutes of Jackie (pictured above) making out with her girlfriend or any of her female employees.

If you don't want any sexual contact, then you must watch this by yourself or with women who are not your mother or mother-in-law.

2. Intervention on A&E

I will not be covering this show because this documentary-style show about addiction is not that funny, but it is absolutely riveting and I'd like to hear what everyone thinks of it. Last week they showed the most beautiful woman (well, not so much anymore) who was an alcoholic in the process of hitting rock bottom. She looked to be from a well-off Southern family and had been a successful interior designer until her second marriage fell apart and her drinking became out of control. She was such a wreck that she lost custody of her kids Britney-style (supervised visits only at the discretion of her ex). Even though I come from a family with more than its fair share of alcoholics, it is fascinating to see addiction up close like this--to see how the addict thinks and how the people close to the addict react.

I'm also captivated by the role of the camera crew on this show. On the show about the interior designer, the camera person was in the car while the woman was chugging vodka and driving. When she was falling down drunk at a bar, the producer called for a family member to pick her up and then they filmed her getting out of the car, weaving around and then falling over and passing out on her gravel driveway (ouch). Do they just say "cut!" and then walk off? I think they do (and for the record, that's okay in my book), but the whole ethical/moral aspect of all of this makes my brain hurt--in a good and beneficial way.

Those of you who read this blog on a regular basis know how shallow I am, especially when it comes to tv. I'm not a person who likes sad shows or shows which require any amount of introspection or thought. But this is different! Check here to see when it's on (personally I like to watch it after The Hills because it kind of balances me out) and you will be mortified and you might even cry, but then you'll feel better at the end when the intervention happens and the person (usually) gets help.

That's it! Now get cracking with the tv watching and report back tomorrow for a full recap of Workout.

I love your blog because it makes me giggle but I've never watched the hills or any of the housewives shows, or workout. However, I have watched every single episode ever made of Intervention. It is fascinating, heart-breaking, educational and riveting. I hope others reading this blog will give it a chance because, seriously, it's some good TV.

I'VE SEEN THAT EPISODE OF INTERVENTION. And her mother comes in and takes her vodka mini bottles and puts them in the trash and hides them with paper towels over the top. The whole time I was screaming "what the fuck are you doing!!! Pour that down the sink! You honestly think she's not going to pull that out of the trash and drink it?"

I am really really hard to shock and I have watched so much intervention that I'm numb to it (but not in that heroin way) but I saw one recently that had my jaw on the floor. It was this alcoholic meth addicted girl (I think she was a stripper) and she had her eyebrows drawn on and eventually she just takes all of her clothes off and is just BELLIGERENTLY screaming at everyone in sight. I've never seen or even imagined anyone so fucked up.

I often tell people that I am filled with fanciful wisdom. One of my wise tips is that if you ever want more alone time, threaten to put on an intervention marathon. I've done this and all of a sudden a room full of people who were too tired to go out to dinner before were out the front door in a flash.

OMG...Watch Intervention after drinking a bottle of wine with your husband. It is not cute. I'm going to show it to my children when they are 11 and hopefully they will never do drugs.

I've been waiting on your recap of workout!! damn that is the best trash on television. Rebecca is a little attention whore and is getting annoying in season 3. I have a little inside info on Jackie btw from a lesbian girlfriend who's in the same circles - apparently she's the super cougar of the lesbians...

Yes, Intervention is a great show. Sad, but very good. I still can't shake the episode about the 20-something bulimic girl. The poor thing was stripping to make money to eat, so she could barf. It was one of the saddest addictions I've ever seen.

Her brother being interviewed said he knew she was in trouble when her parents found two 20lb trash bags in her bedroom full of barf.

SGM, you know me well, and I am sure will be amazed when I tell you that when I watch Intervention I sit still for the entire hour, enthralled in the story and so sad and sort of sick for and about those people, and esp. their families. How horribly, horribly sad it makes me.

Glad you're back!

That's a great picture of Jackie. She does not look that attractive on the show. Kinda horsey-faced.

Intervention is addictive. Why can't I stop watching other people's trainwreck lives?

Is it just me or does that pic of the Workout girl look like a super ripped Scarlett Johannsen sans bodacious boobies?

I have totally loved Workout, but lately it's been bugging me. Jackie Warner seems nice on the outside but for some reason this season she comes off so insecure and totally selfish. So I haven't been watching as much as I used to.

As for Intervention, I simply cannot watch that show. Honestly way too sad and real life for me. Give me the fluff of The Hills and Real Housewives any day!

ps - we missed you.

let's discuss jackie's 'house' in the first episode. you all do realize, that wasn't her house? right? that was a 'location', scouted for, and paid for then used for the first season. it must have taken a huge part of their budget-- as a location of that caliber is not cheap.

that's how "reality shows" roll. if you notice, this season, her pad is not nearly as art directed.
